Toys for a growing baby are not only a must but add joy, color and a new dimension to the baby's life. Choosing the right toy for your baby is therefore very essential. By observing your baby, you will come to know what he likes to do, what kind of toy he likes to play with and which toy he constantly turns to from time to time. The questions needed to be asked to figure out what your child likes are:

o What are the toys that he clings to or likes to play with when he is in the stroller or in the car or even in his crib?

o What toy is his favorite and one that he needs when he is tired, cranky and wants to sleep?

o Does the baby stick to one kind of activity or is he happy doing a variety of things?

Once you have identified most of these answers you will have a better idea of your child's preferences and will be able to make a wiser and more informed decision regarding the purchase of the baby's toys.

Research has shown that till the child is about six months of age, he responds well to bold, contrasting colours and graphics. These tend to captivate and hold the baby's attention, encouraging visual development as well as physical activity like wiggling, kicking, and waving. By the time the child is one month old, he has already learn to appreciate sounds and soft music. You can hang a set of wind chimes at a window or over the crib so that the baby can see it and fall asleep listening to the soft and pleasing sounds of the toy. Again, objects that move slowly and produce a lovely sound are far more interesting for the baby. Find out which nursery rhyme or lullaby he likes the most.

Today, parents are looking more for toys that serve as educational aids as well as for entertainment. Learning at an early age has assumed great importance in today's competitive world. It is noted that often the simple things make up the most fascinating and fun baby toys.

There are many great baby toys in a variety of colour and design in the market today. Look for age appropriate, simple toys that will capture a baby's imagination. Keep in mind that the toys that can be chewed on and thrown around without getting damaged are the best choices.
