How To Choose The Right Baby Walkers

by Norbert Shtaynberg 07 Apr 2019

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. ? H. Jackson Brown Jr.

A baby walker is an object used to help your baby get around before they can walk. Most baby walkers are constructed from a plastic or metal frame. There a seat that is suspended in the center that allows the baby's feet to touch the floor. There are wheels attached to the bottom to allow the baby room to scoot around.

Although some people feel that baby walkers are unsafe, in 1997 a voluntary safety standard was issued. This standard made it mandatory that a rubberized friction strip be added to the base of the walker. This helps the walker from going off the edge of the stairs.

Some things to consider when buying a baby walker include safety, trying the display model, your baby's comfort, type of walker, and the attachments.

Where safety is concerned, make sure the walker meets the safety standard and is stable. When trying out the display model, test it out to make sure it does not pinch your fingers when folded (or unfolded). Also check to see that your baby's feet touch the ground on the shortest height setting. Try to stay away from walk-behind walkers. Your baby could push it away and fall or push the walker over an edge. As for the attachments, make sure your baby enjoys them and they cannot break off and be swallowed.

Baby walkers can be fun for your baby, but do use it with caution. Do not leave your child alone. Make sure you keep an eye on your child and they will have fun.
