About Educational And Fun Baby Toys
While becoming a parent is one of the most amazing things you could experience in your life, it does come with a downside. Do I have your attention? The downside to a newborn is that as they grow, they will begin to encounter bacteria and germs which can keep them sick and at the doctor's office way more than you'd ever imagine.
So, how can you keep some of the germs and bacteria at bay?
Knowing how to keep baby toys clean is one of the best ways to ensure you're doing what you can to protect your little angel. Below are some baby toy tips to help you get the germs and bacteria under control.
Types of Toys to Clean
You may not find every type of baby toy listed below, but it will give you a great start to cleaning them. For toys that contain batteries and lots of accessories, follow the manufacturer's directions for cleaning. For the rest of the toy world, follow the cleaning tips below.
Large Baby Toys
For ride on toys, bouncers, walkers, strollers, and other larger toys, wash them with soap and water, then follow up with a diluted mixture of water and bleach. Letting it air dry will ensure all the germs and bacteria have been destroyed. If you prefer, rinse the toy off before allowing baby to return although it is not necessary.
Fabric baby toys are the easiest to clean. Simply add the toys to your washing machine and wash as you would a normal load of laundry. If you are worried that a special toy may become damaged inside the washer, place it inside a pillow case and knot the top of it tightly to keep the toy safe. Avoid using harsh detergents for children who are allergic.
Small Plastic Baby Toys
For any small plastic baby toys that will fit inside your dishwasher, by all means, wash them in it! For more delicate plastics, add them to the top rack and for any that are made of harder plastics, which most are, add the wherever you can fit them. Use your normal dishwashing detergent. The dishwasher will not only wash the toys, but it will sanitize them too!
Best Times to Wash Toys?
Regularly washing baby toys is a necessity for keeping the bacteria and germs away from your child. But, are there times when you should give them an extra wash?
When your little one has a play date or you have babysat for a friend, wash anything the other child or children has played with. While the other child may seem germ free, germs don't always show themselves until hours later and it could be too late to keep your child well. For instance, stomach viruses come on quickly and without warning!
Also, when your child has been sick, give them an extra washing. Of course, whenever you see that the toys have become soiled or food particles cannot be wiped off easily, it's time to wash them again!
Cleaning your child's baby toys may seem like a daunting task, but kids grow up fast and it will not last forever.
