How To Choose Right Baby Stroller

Choosing the right stroller is one of the most important decisions you’ll have to make before the arrival of your baby. Especially, since a stroller is one of the essential baby items you’ll certainly need and use daily.

With so many brands and different types of strollers on the market, choosing a stroller that will be the right fit for your baby and family can be quite overwhelming. Luckily, we at ANB Baby are here to guide you through this process.

This article will provide a quick guide on what you need to consider when choosing a stroller, the types of strollers to choose from and some of the go-to features to look out for.

What To Consider When Choosing a Stroller

Lifestyle

One of the first things you need to consider when choosing a stroller is your family’s lifestyle. Try and figure out how and when you will mostly be using your baby stroller. For example, if you live in the city you may want a stroller that will allow you to easily get on the bus or subway. If you live in the suburbs, you may need an all-terrain stroller that can withstand bumpy roads and long walks in the park.

Most importantly, don’t forget to consider your living space too. If you live in a small apartment, you may want a compact yet lightweight stroller which you can carry up the stairs along with your baby without any issues. Essentially, your stroller needs to meet your needs and fit your life.

Family Size

Besides your family’s lifestyle, you will also need to look at a stroller that fits your family size. Are you planning to have kids soon after each other or do you have one or two little ones under three? In that case, it would be more cost-effective to consider a single stroller that converts into a double stroller to accommodate your little ones.

Budget

It’s safe to say that buying a stroller is a huge investment for parents. So just like any big investment, it’s important to consider what you’re able or willing to spend. Different strollers come with different features and high-end fabrics which are often reflected in the price. It’s important to consider which features are a ‘must’ or just nice-to-have.

Personal Style

Not everyone might consider this to be important, however, it’s okay if you do! In today’s society, fashionable strollers are totally a thing! So don’t feel embarrassed to consider your style and look out for things like the stroller color, chassis (or frame) type, wheels or bumper bar before you choose a stroller.

Types of Strollers

When it comes to baby strollers, there is a wide range of stroller types for different purposes to choose from. We’ve listed four main stroller types and the benefits for your family:

Convertible Stroller

These types of strollers are great for parents who want an all-in-one stroller. Convertible strollers are usually designed to be used from birth and are built to adapt to your family’s changing and perhaps growing needs. For example, if you’re looking to use a stroller from birth you can attach a bassinet to the stroller and switch to seat mode once your little one is 6 months or older.

With the help of car seat adapters, you’ll also be able to attach a car seat to your stroller, making it easy to move your baby from car to stroller. If your family is expanding, you’ll be able to convert a single stroller to a double stroller - A convertible stroller simply put...grows with your family .

Double Stroller

If you’re expecting twins or want your little ones (who are of similar age) to be able to engage with each other, a double stroller will most likely suit your needs. There are usually two types of double strollers: in-line double strollers or side by side double strollers. If you’re having twins and want to use a double stroller from birth, you’ll need a double stroller that can allow two infant car seats at one go .

Jogging Stroller

A jogging stroller is the go-to stroller for active parents who frequently go for a run or any sort of outdoor exercise. Jogging strollers are usually designed with three wheels which make them easier to push and maneuver while running. Additionally, these types of strollers are also great for uneven terrain and bumpy roads. It’s important to note that it’s not recommended to run with your little one in a jogging stroller until they are about eight months old .

Travel Systems

A travel system comes with a single stroller and matching bassinet or car seat that attaches right to your stroller without any adapters needed. The benefit of having a travel system is that you can easily move your baby from car to stroller without having to put in the adapters first. Travel systems can also come with a car seat base and reversible stroller seat which reclines in both forward and rear-facing positions

Stroller Features to Consider

Every stroller is different and every brand offers its own key features. When it comes to considering the stroller features it’s important to keep in mind how you’re planning on using your stroller as not every feature may be a must-have. However, there are some key features that you should look out for in every stroller.

Five-Point Harness

A five-point harness has shoulder straps and a strap between the legs and waist that connect together. Strollers with an adjustable five-point harness are considered the safest for your little one.

Wheels

Wheels are an important feature to look out for as the wheel quality can make or break any stroller. Generally look out for foam-filled, air-filled or rubber wheels as they are more durable and allow for better maneuverability.

Brakes

Every stroller should have brakes that lock both wheels simultaneously. Some strollers, for example jogging strollers, can come with both foot and hand brakes. However, most strollers have a foot brake which should instantly block the wheels.

Canopy

The canopy should have great ventilation and provide enough protection from the sun and wind.

Adjustable Handlebar

This allows you to adjust the handlebar to accommodate your height. Ergonomic strollers are designed and built to be adjustable and back-friendly which allows parents to have a straight back when pushing a stroller.

Storage Basket Space

Depending on your needs, look out for a stroller that comes with a storage basket that has enough room and space to store large and heavy bags.

Removable & Washable Fabric

We all know babies can be messy. Your baby will have lots of fun rides in their stroller but also a lot of spillings and snack accidents. It’s great if your stroller has removable and washable covers which you can either hand wash or throw in the washer.
